Are you a fan of blues/rock music and classic rock legends? If so\, you won’t want to miss the return of Barry Goudreau’s Engine Room to the Mass Arts Center on Saturday\, Oct. 14\, 2023.

Goudreau was the guitarist and founding member of the iconic band Boston\, and he has teamed up with his former RTZ bandmates Brian Maes and Ti m Archibald to form this dynamic new band that delivers powerful vocals\, guitar solos\, and catchy melodies\, with new songs and ones you’ll recogn ize from Boston.

Guitarist Barry Goudreau\, formerly of Boston\, r ecently announced the release of his new CD\, “The Road” from his band Bar ry Goudreau’s Engine Room. Barry’s blues/rock ensemble includes his former RTZ bandmates Brian Maes on lead vocals and keyboards\, as well as Tim Ar chibald on bass. Both Maes and Archibald were members of Peter Wolf’s Hous e Party Five\, playing on two of his records and touring the world extensi vely. The band is rounded out with “Old” Tony DePietro on drums and Mary B eth Maes\, Terri O’Soro and Joanie Cicatelli on background vocals. Expect some favorites like “Smokin” and “Long Time” in their live set\, alongside songs from the new CD as well as tracks from “Full Steam Ahead”\, the 201 7 release from Barry Goudreau’s Engine Room.

The Kennedys\, Songwriting duo Pete and Maura Kennedy make a strong return to the studio and stage after three years of weekly live-streamed l ockdown-era concerts. They took the opportunity to explore classic songwri ting in-depth\, performing over a thousand songs during the pandemic. That vast overview strengthened and refined their own writing and laid the fou ndation for this new collection of original\, socially-conscious songs.

“After such a deep dive into American roots music\, we felt like we had a new set of writing tools. We were ready to create this body of work\ , and there’s just SO much to write about\,” says Maura. “During our five- year hiatus from writing and recording\, America changed in massive ways\, divisive ways that have shaken our whole foundation. That has to be addre ssed by creative artists\, those of us who have a voice to speak for other s. Our love of the great things about this country\, things that are under threat\, is the reason we decided to make “Headwinds” the title track of the CD. Political and social headwinds are making it hard to get back “hom e’ to our greatness as a nation. We want to push back in a positive way ag ainst those winds.”

In addition to singing and writing\, Pete and Maura are multi-instrumentalists. The thirteen songs are cast in a soundsc ape that draws from the classic canon of American roots\, in keeping with the theme of getting back “home” as a nation. Acoustic and electric guitar s\, a vintage steel guitar\, a gospel-inflected piano/organ mix\, and even a slide ukulele all add colors to a song bag of sounds that have drawn us together during hard times. Pete and Maura believe that those sounds stil l have the power to pull us through again.

The Kennedys began thei r writing and touring life three decades ago as members of Nanci Griffith’ s Blue Moon Orchestra\, developing their own sound as a frequent support a ct on Nanci’s tours across America\, Ireland\, Scotland and England. Colla borations with Nanci continued\, culminating in Pete and Maura producing h er final album\, “Intersections.” Along the way\, they hosted a nationwide radio program\, “The Dharma Cafe” on Sirius/XM\, wrote and released sixte en CDs of original music\, and have been core artists on folk radio\, expa nding their audience further with the inception of the AAA and Americana f ormats.

Presen ting the Reunion Tour of “On A Winter’s Night” from veteran singer-songwri ters that remain among the brightest stars of the singer/songwriter moveme nt for the past three decades. In 1994 Christine Lavin gathered them toget her\, along with folk and Americana artists to showcase music of the Winte r Season on the now-classic On A Winter’s Night CD\, followed by several y ears of touring collaborations. One of the most original songsmiths currently on tour \, Eberhardt is a highly intelligent\, articulate artist whose penetrating and profound lyrics are sometimes overshadowed by his extraordinary guita r playing. Upon close listening\, the Philadelphia-born singer’s gift for the English language is abundantly clear. The words that tumble from his m outh are framed by a raspy yet deeply elegant voice. Like John Hammond and Richie Havens\, Eberhardt continues to carry the torch for traditional an d contemporary folk music through his strong live shows. Whether he’s out on tour solo or with a small band\, Eberhardt’s guitar playing\, singing\, and original folk songs and blues make for a compelling\, thought-filled\ , emotional roller coaster of a concert.

JOHN GORKA

Hailed b y Rolling Stone as “the leading singer/songwriter of the New Folk movement \,” John Gorka is perhaps the quintessential singer-songwriter of the 90’s folk scene. Originally from New Jersey\, John served an apprenticeship at Godfrey Daniels coffeehouse in Bethlehem\, PA\, then the Greenwich Villag e Fast Folk scene. Winning the prestigious New Folk award at the Kerrville Folk Festival\, in 1984\, he was then signed to Red House Records on whic h he released his landmark first of 17 recordings\, I Know. Boston Globe p enned Gorka “for the sophisticated intelligence and the provocative origin ality of his songs.” Recent accolades include 2016’s Indie Acoustic Projec t’s Best Singer/Songwriter CD of the Year for Before Beginning (Red House Records). 2018 brought his latest release\, and 14th of his career\, True In Time (Compass Records). Recently an Artist-in-Residence at Berklee College of Music – and now on the faculty at Fine Arts Work Center – Larkin reflects\, “I hav e been energized by the poets\, writers\, and artists I have met while tea ching\, and find myself on a journey to break down some of the predictable pathways that songs can travel.” Bird in a Cage\, her 14th CD now availab le\, puts poems from ten notable poets to song\, including US Poet Laureat es William Carlos Williams\, Stanley Kunitz\, Kay Ryan\, Robert Pinsky\, a nd Billy Collins\, for a new and haunting collection that pulses with the magic of lyricism. The Jim Kweskin Extravaganza is a live concert that wil l honor and celebrate Jim’s legacy and his contributions to the music indu stry over the past 60-plus years.

Jim Kweskin is the founder of the legendary 1960s Jim Kweskin Jug Band with Fritz Richmond\, G eoff Muldaur\, Maria Muldaur\, Mel Lyman\, and Bruno Wolfe. During the fiv e years they were together\, they successfully transformed the sounds of p re-World War II rural music into a springboard for their good-humored perf ormances. Their imitators were legion\, including a San Francisco jug band that became the Grateful Dead\, a Los Angeles jug band that became the Ni tty Gritty Dirt Band\, and a New York jug band that became the Lovin’ Spoo nful. No other group attained their unique blend of youthful energy and an tiquarian expertise\, tight musicianship\, loose camaraderie\, and infecti ous swing.

The concert will feature songs from Jim’s soon-to-be-re leased recording on StorySound Records\, Never Too Late: Jim Kweskin\, Duets with My Friends\, which will be released on Friday\, January 26 \, 2024. The show will also feature artists and songs from Jim’s storied career\, including the renowned and influential Jim Kweskin Jug Band.

Scheduled to appear along with Jim Kweskin\, are Maria Muldaur\, Geof f Muldaur\, Samoa Wilson\, Annie Raines\, Paul Rishell\, Juli Crockett\, S uzy Thompson\, and Matthew Berlin. Additional artists appearing will be a nnounced soon.

Barry Goudreau\, formerly of the multi-platinum-selling band Boston\, played on the band’s first two albums\, Boston and Don’t Lo ok Back. When released\, Boston was the fastest-selling debut album of all time. Both albums landed on the Billboard Pop Charts\, with Boston reachi ng No. 3 and Don’t Look Back reaching No. 1. Goudreau’s music career conti nued after departing from Boston. He went on to form Orion the Hunter\, RT Z\, released two records with Brad Delp\, and now tours with his band Engi ne Room.

Singer/songwriter Robin Lane will open the show. She bega n her musical career singing with Neil Young on the Everybody Knows This i s Nowhere album. In 1979\, she formed the renowned band Robin Lane & The C hartbusters\, whose hit single “When Things Go Wrong” was the eleventh vid eo broadcast on MTV’s debut day.

Bristol-RI-based singer-songwriter Michelle Saylors was raised on a 30-acre fa rm in bible-belt Tennessee. Early musical inspirations include country\, b luegrass-gospel\, folk and Memphis blues. Michelle performed bluegrass mus ic in the early 90s at festivals such as Lester Flat Bluegrass Festival an d the Country Showdown. Michelle moved to New England in 1998 and landed i n Rhode Island in 2009 where she became involved in the Rhode Island Songw riters Association. Michelle played at the Bluebird Café in Nashville at S ongwriters open mics on several occasions. Michelle performed at the Provi dence Folk Festival in 2014 and the Rhode Island Folk Festival in 2022.

In July of 2024\, Michelle released her solo debut album titled “Hit the Creek” which features 10 original songs written solely by Michelle. T he album has been well-received by fans and continues to gain momentum on streaming platforms nationally and recently hit the UK. Her songwriting is rooted both physically and metaphorically by the space and distance betwe en small town Tennessee and coastal New England. Michelle is currently wor king on her second album. Abbie Gardner is a fiery dobro player with an infectious smil e. Whether performing solo or with Americana darlings Red Molly\, her tale s of love and loss\, both gritty and sweet\, are propelled by her impeccab le slide guitar chops. As an award-winning songwriter\, captivating vocali st\, and a world-class lap style dobro player\, she has an unmistakable so und all her own. This is masterfully captured on her 2022 CD “DobroSinger. ” The record made it to #11 on the Billboard Blues Charts and #2 on the Fo lk DJ Charts\, receiving rave reviews in Bluegrass Unlimited\, Acoustic Gu itar Magazine and American Songwriter. It’s a raw intimate recording full of blues\, ballads and the ache of the unknown. It’s quite a contrast to h er previous CD\, which featured a co-write with Chris Stapleton and leaned on full band production. Abbie stands strong as a solo act and has opened for Lori McKenna and Martina McBride.

Acoustic Guitar Magazine sa ys\, “sheer brilliance and power … her evocative guitar is a second voice throughout\, sometimes singing in unison\, in harmony other times\, or ans wering as in a conversation with the singer. Her background is as varied as the songs she writes. Her father\, Herb Gardner \, is a stride pianist and dixieland trombonist. Abbie didn’t get into mus ic school on her original instrument (flute)\, but graduated summa cum lau de with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She gradually found her way back to music in Boston’s folk music scene.

During the pandemic\, Abbi e started teaching free Woodshed dobro lessons in her backyard and posting them to YouTube. Helping ot her people fan the flames of their creativity has always been a nice balan ce to performing. She has taught in person at Nashville Dobro Camp\, ResoS ummit\, Kaufman Kamp\, Rockygrass Academy\, and Roots Music Camp. Then for Songwriting\, she’s taught at New England Songwriters Retreat\, Swannanoa Gathering\, Summer Songs\, and Moab Folk Camp. Peter Asher\, we first came to know him through the g lobal smash “World Without Love” as one half of the British Invasion duo P eter & Gordon. He returns–now a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of t he British Empire– in “Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 6 0s and Beyond” which brings a multimedia experience to the stage\, hosted by the two-time Grammy winner for Producer of the Year. Peter Asher moved effortlessly from his role with Peter & Gordon to Music Executive with the Beatles’ Apple Records\, then famously- (as in cover of Rolling Stone mag azine level famous)- to Producer and Manager\, handling the careers of Jam es Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt and a host of others. Books abound\, documentar ies with half-truths (and worse) are all too common\, but\, now\, finally\ , Mr. Asher tells first hand his tales from the eye of the cultural hurric ane in this intimate evening.

“Memoir” includes film footage and p hotos from Peter’s considerable personal archive\, brought to life with a storyteller’s gift\, transporting audiences back to the heart of 60s popul ar culture. Icons such as Mick Jagger\, John Lennon\, Paul McCartney\, Mar ianne Faithful\, Yoko Ono\, Carole King\, James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt are among the cast of characters in this narrative – along (of course) wit h the greatly missed Gordon Waller. Mike Laureanno< /strong> hails from Fall River\, MA an old mill-town infamous for its axe wielding resident Lizzie Borden and famous for its chow mein sandwiche s and pork pies. Bristol-RI-based singer-songwriter Michelle Saylors was raised on a 30-acre farm in bible-belt Tennessee. Early mu sical inspirations include country\, bluegrass-gospel\, folk and Memphis b lues. Michelle performed bluegrass music in the early 90s at festivals suc h as Lester Flat Bluegrass Festival and the Country Showdown. Michelle mov ed to New England in 1998 and landed in Rhode Island in 2009 where she bec ame involved in the Rhode Island Songwriters Association. Michelle played at the Bluebird Café in Nashville at Songwriters open mics on several occa sions. Michelle performed at the Providence Folk Festival in 2014 and the Rhode Island Folk Festival in 2022.

In July of 2024\, Michelle rel eased her solo debut album titled “Hit the Creek” which features 10 origin al songs written solely by Michelle. The album has been well-received by f ans and continues to gain momentum on streaming platforms nationally and r ecently hit the UK. Her songwriting is rooted both physically and metaphor ically by the space and distance between small town Tennessee and coastal New England. Michelle is currently working on her second album. She identi fies her musical style as Nashville blues-country/bluegrass/folk.

G uitarist Barry Goudreau\, formerly of Boston\, recently an nounced the release of his new CD\, “The Road\,” from his band Barry Goudr eau’s Engine Room. Barry’s blues/rock ensemble includes his former RTZ ban dmates Brian Maes on lead vocals and keyboards\, as well as Tim Archibald on bass. Both Maes and Archibald were members of Peter Wolf’s House Party Five\, playing on two of his records and touring the world extensively. Th e band is rounded out with “Old” Tony DePietro on drums and Mary Beth Maes \, Terri O’Soro\, and Joanie Cicatelli on background vocals. Expect some f avorites like “Smokin” and “Long Time” in their live set\, alongside songs from the new CD as well as tracks from “Full Steam Ahead”\, the 2017 rele ase from Barry Goudreau’s Engine Room.

Produced by Brian Maes\, “T he Road” features songs written by Goudreau\, Maes\, Archibald\, and DePie tro\, with the sole exception of “The Rhythm Won’t Stop”\, penned by Brad Delp and Barry Goudreau. Goudreau calls it “Contemporary classic rock”\, a n apt description of songs like “Love Will Lead The Way”\, “Word To The Wi se”\, and the power ballad “Shade”–songs inspired by the iconic music of t he great rock bands of the ’70s and beyond.

The Engine Room’s 2017 CD Full Steam Ahead” covers the whole spectrum of blues and rock\, from t he stripped down blues of “All Mine” to the all out rock assault of “Need” . A longtime friend of Goudreau’s\, legendary bluesman James Montgomery\, sits in on harp for “Layin’ it Down {In Beantown}.” Barry says\, “I wanted to look back to the acts of the late sixties and early seventies when the y were reinventing the blues in new and exciting ways”. Maes produced the record in his studio with Goudreau recording the guitar tracks in his home studio.

That vast overview strengthened and refined their own writin g and laid the foundation for this new collection of original\, socially-c onscious songs.

“After such a deep dive into American roots music\ , we felt like we had a new set of writing tools. We were ready to create this body of work\, and there’s just SO much to write about\,” says Maura. “During our five-year hiatus from writing and recording\, America changed in massive ways\, divisive ways that have shaken our whole foundation. Th at has to be addressed by creative artists\, those of us who have a voice to speak for others. Our love of the great things about this country\, thi ngs that are under threat\, is the reason we decided to make “Headwinds” t he title track of the CD. Political and social headwinds are making it har d to get back “home’ to our greatness as a nation. We want to push back in a positive way against those winds.”

In addition to singing and w riting\, Pete and Maura are multi-instrumentalists. The thirteen songs are cast in a soundscape that draws from the classic canon of American roots\ , in keeping with the theme of getting back “home” as a nation. Acoustic a nd electric guitars\, a vintage steel guitar\, a gospel-inflected piano/or gan mix\, and even a slide ukulele all add colors to a songbag of sounds t hat have drawn us together during hard times. Pete and Maura believe that those sounds still have the power to pull us through again.

The Ke nnedys began their writing and touring life three decades ago as members o f Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra\, developing their own sound as a f requent support act on Nanci’s tours across America\, Ireland\, Scotland a nd England. Collaborations with Nanci continued\, culminating in Pete and Maura producing her final album\, “Intersections.” Along the way\, they ho sted a nationwide radio program\, “The Dharma Cafe” on Sirius/XM\, wrote a nd released sixteen CDs of original music\, and have been core artists on folk radio\, expanding their audience further with the inception of the AA A and Americana formats.

In 1978\, Greg formed his group Channel One\, which was a favorite in the New England area\, and from there had the opportunity to play tenor sax with the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra under the leadership of Dick Johnson from 1986 to ’87.

Following this experience\, Greg ventured out a s a post-hard bop soloist playing Jazz Festivals\, Jazz Societies\, and Ja zz Clubs throughout the U.S.\, Canada\, and abroad\, including most of Eur ope\, the UK\, and Moscow and Georgia\, Russia.

Birthed from the dusty high plains of the bible belt\, wordsmith James Lee Baker sources the essence of his craft from a small-town past and a journey of self-discovery as the way out. Laced with mysticism\, his emotive and tho ught-provoking songs speak to the shared\, tender heart of our human condi tion.

In 2020\, he released 100 Summers – a full-length LP of son gs centered around a theme of change. The title track reached #1 on the FA I Folk charts that month\, garnering nearly half a million streams across platforms. Two of the songs on the project –Returning to Paris and The Las t Cowboy in Hutchinson County – were selected as finalists for several nat ionally-known songwriting contests.

In 2022\, he released a cover project called “Impressions”\, recorded by Chris Bell (U2\, The Eagles) an d produced by Roscoe Beck (Eric Johnson\, Leonard Cohen)\, which was relea sed in 2022. The single “Did Galileo Pray?”\, a cover of Ellis Paul\, char ted #10. John Apice from Americana Highways said “Baker’s cover of Bob Dyl an’s ‘Just Like a Woman’ is one of the finest I ever heard. He captures th e lyric\, understands it and possesses it as a first-class interpreter.”\n

Winner 2025 Rose Garden Perfor ming Songwriter Competition

Growing up near Philadelphia\, Charlo tte Morris found her passion for music early\, learning multiple instrumen ts and writing songs by age twelve. Influenced by folk classics and female storytellers like Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile\, she developed a genu ine\, raw\, and emotional style.
\n
After touring with “Lonesome Trav eler” in 2018\, performing alongside folk legends\, Charlotte released her debut EP “To New York\, with Love\,” followed by the “Sputnik” EP and a n ational acoustic tour. Her first full-length album\, “Songs For My Next Ex ” (2020)\, received critical acclaim\, prompting her move to Nashville in 2021.
\n
There\, she participated in The Johnny Mercer Foundation’s S ongwriters Project\, mentored by industry greats. In 2022\, Charlotte part nered with Charlotte Avenue Entertainment\, releasing impactful singles li ke “Good Kind of Hurt” and “Tennessee.” Her second studio album\, “Wild Ch ild” (2023)\, gained international recognition. After a 30-city internatio nal tour in 2024\, Charlotte returned to Philadelphia\, with new music and tours on the horizon. She holds a degree in Theatre from Northwestern Uni versity.

In late 2024\, Laurie MacAllister embarked on an exciting new c hapter\, launching a solo career with a sold-out performance at the legend ary Club Passim.

Two decades earlier\, she co-founded the beloved Americana trio Red Molly\, which released seven acclaimed albums and toure d both the U.S. and internationally\, including appearances at MerleFest\, Cayamo\, and Boston Symphony Hall.

Along the way\, ad executives heard Laurie’s voice on the Red Molly album “Never Been to Vegas” and invi ted her to sing the iconic Folgers Coffee jingle for a national TV commerc ial.

Jon Pousette-Dart is best known as an Ameri can Classic and Folk Rock songwriter\, musician\, and performing artist. G rowing up in Suffern\, NY with a household of artists\, including his fath er\, grandfather\, and sister\, he separated himself by picking up a guita r at the age of 10 and mapping out a life in music before he ever attended a little league game. Since then it’s been a long and well-traveled road in the world of music.

A little bit of time has passed between whe n Jon Pousette-Dart as a teenager started forging a path in the musical landscape that started in the 60’s and laid a foundation with the original Pousette-Dart Band. Throughout the 70’s and into the 80’s the band earned a loyal national following and produced 5 releases fo r Capitol that made a deep imprint in the world of album radio\, when we a ll used to only listen to vinyl. When the band parted ways\, Jon continued working and slowly began navigating back to where he started writing and recording in earnest with many of Nashville’s finest\, and some twenty odd years ago Jon crossed paths with Jim Chapdelaine one of the more formidab le musicians he crossed paths with. \n< p>Christine Lavin started her professional life as a waitr ess/bread baker at the Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs\, NY in 1975 where s he met Dave Van Ronk who encouraged her to study guitar with him in NYC. S he took his advice and is now a singer/songwriter/guitarist/recording arti st/author/videographer based in New York City. Her latest solo album\, her 25th\, ON MY WAY TO HOOTERVILLE\, includes 10 n ew songs and one re-worked song\, “Ramblin’ Waltz\,” a re-telling of her t ime in 1975 when she was an entourage driver for the first week of Bob Dylan‘s iconic “Rolling Thunder Revue”< /em> tour.

In 2023 Christine released “The Seasons Project\,” an 8 0-song seasonal compilation that features the work of 63 American\, Canadi an\, British and Irish singer/songwriters. Christine assembled this compil ation to help guide future historians and folklorists to authentic music b eing written in the last two decades of the 20th Century and the first two of the 21st Century.

In 2024 she is completing her 26th solo albu m\, DRUM SCHOOL DROPOUT\, hoping to have it completed in 2025.

In October 2024 there were 11 performances of “InunDATEd\,” a 90 min ute theatrical production that showcased nine of Christine’s songs by the York Theatre in NYC. HONORS AND AWARDS: In May 2021 Christine received an Honorary Do ctorate in Fine Arts from her alma mater\, the State University of New Yor k at Brockport. Barry Goudreau\, formerly of B oston\, recently announced the release of his new CD\, “The Road” from his band Barry Goudreau’s Engine Room. Barry’s blues/rock e nsemble includes his former RTZ bandmates Brian Maes on lead vocals and ke yboards\, as well as Tim Archibald on bass. Both Maes and Archibald were m embers of Peter Wolf’s House Party Five\, playing on two of his records an d touring the world extensively. The band is rounded out with “Old” Tony D ePietro on drums and Mary Beth Maes\, Terri O’Soro and Joanie Cicatelli on background vocals. Expect some favorites like “Smokin” and “Long Time” in their live set\, alongside songs from the new CD as well as tracks from “ Full Steam Ahead”\, the 2017 release from Barry Goudreau’s Engine Room.

The name ‘Johnny A.’ might not be so mainstream\, but there’s no doubt th at it’s synonymous with guitar.
\n
His passion began at the age of th irteen\, when he first saw the Beatles in Boston\, followed two years late r by an in-person witnessing of Jimi Hendrix. From there\, he was hooked\, getting a cheap beginner guitar to try and play along with his early hero es — which also included Yardbirds icons Eric Clapton\, Jeff Beck\, and Ji mmy Page.
\nSoon enough\, Johnny A. got it.
\n
By the 1970’s\, h e was forming bands in the New England area\, drawing attention from sever al established musicians\, like Derek and the Dominos’ keyboardist Bobby W hitlock and Doug Clifford of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Johnny A. becam e Music Director of J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf’s outfit\, coordinatin g the onstage arrangements\, playing on several tours and co-producing Wol f’s 1996 album\, *Long Line.* What’s more\, he was even asked to join The Yardbirds as their lead guitarist in 2015.

Karla Bonoff\, born and raised in Southern California\, was a songwriter by the age of fi fteen. She and her sister Lisa were writing songs and playing as a duo tit led “The Daughters of Chester P” named after their father\, Dr. Chester Pa ul Bonoff. She had already fallen in love with the guitar and studied with Frank Hamilton of the famous folk group\, The Weavers. By 16\, Karla and her sister Lisa auditioned for Elektra Records. An 11-song demo [recorded by Doors’ engineer Bruce Botnick] was recorded but no deal came of this fi rst effort.

Karla’s legacy as a wr iter and perseverance as a performer are spoken best in a Billboard Magazi ne review of Karla’s “All My Life” recording. “Long before Alanis and Jewe l\, there was a breed of singer/songwriters whose earthly anthems of soul- searching\, heartache and joy touched souls in a way few can muster today. ”
