Northern Lights, one of our favorite newgrass bands, is back.

You won’t want to miss the return of one of our favorite progressive bluegrass bands — Northern Lights! After playing their “final” show right here at the Rose Garden before disbanding in 2010, the legendary group is back for a special reunion.

Featuring former members Jeff Horton (bass, vocals), Bill Henry (guitar, vocals), and Taylor Armerding (mandolin, vocals), this lineup brings back the signature vocal harmonies and tight instrumental synergy honed over more than three decades as one of New England’s most influential acoustic acts.

Joining them for this performance are special guests Alex Mitchell on fiddle and Max Wareham on banjo, with Max honoring the cherished banjo legacies of the late Mike Kropp and Gabe Hirshfeld.

True to their reputation for stretching bluegrass boundaries while honoring its roots, Northern Lights has even prepared new material, featuring songs by John Hiatt, John Gorka, Mick Hanly, Paul Simon, and Bob Dylan.

Vance Gilbert @ Rose Garden Coffeehouse

We are so thrilled to have Vance Gilbert conclude our 38th season! Vance is a versatile and influential acoustic singer-songwriter, performer, and coach. He has released 14 albums and performed at prestigious festivals and venues. His latest album, “The Mother Of Trouble”, showcases his storytelling skills and diverse musical influences. Vance is the perfect musician to inspire our trio of songwriters participating that night in our 34th Performing Songwriter Competition.

“If Joni Mitchell and Richie Havens had a love child, with Rodney Dangerfield as the midwife, the results might be something close to the great Vance Gilbert”, says Richmond Magazine.
